The benefits of Chillies

Chillies add more than just burn to your burrito!
The chefs at adobo are absolutely fanatical about the powerful and complex flavours of the humble chilli pepper and they are very proud to allow you to taste the original range of adobo marinades, sauces and salsas which are created using a variety of chillies including fresh Jalapeños, Habaneros and Serranos. So, everyone knows that chillies are hot, but did you also know how nutritious they are, and that they even have some medicinal properties?
-
Natural Detox
Chillies act as detoxifiers as they remove waste products from our body and increase the supply of nutrients to the tissues. They also act as a gastrointestinal detoxifier, helping in the digestion of food.
-
Pain relief
Chillies stimulate the release of endorphins that are natural pain killers. Capsaicin (the substance which gives chillies their heat) has been found to give pain relief without the numbing effect of anaesthetics. Harvard researchers said recently that capsaicin can be used to target pain receptors with affecting nerve cells.
-
Benefits for patients
Capsaicin contains a neuropeptide associated with the inflammatory process and has positive effects in patients with auto inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis.
-
Protective against cancer
A Berkley neurobiology study found capsaicin/chilli consumption to be "protective against stomach cancer". They also noted the correlation between increased chilli consumption in the USA and falling rates of gastric cancer.
-
Pure pleasure
Capsaicin stimulates the brain to release endorphins, giving a sense of pleasure when ingested. This is the reason why people get addicted, so if you become an Adobo addict, please don't say we didn't warn you!
